<title>Critical Investigation on Influences from Natural Science Theories and Ideas in Development of the Classical Anthropology</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10761</link>
<description>Critical Investigation on Influences from Natural Science Theories and Ideas in Development of the Classical Anthropology
Abhayasundere, A.P.N.D.S.; Jayeweera, P.P.M.; Withanachchi, R.H.K.
Anthropology has developed approximately over the two hundred years in the western world into separate new discipline of its own. Many theories have been formulated by classical anthropologist to explain and to study concepts of culture and human behavior. The sub-discipline, cultural anthropology emerged during the 19th century in the British then in USA. This paper presents critical investigation on to the major influences from natural science and related ideologies in the process of development of cultural anthropological theories to study concepts of culture. The historical comparative method was adopted for the said investigation. According to findings of the completed investigation, it is with enough evidences that reveal the magnitudes of the impact from natural science ideologies to develop the theories of classical anthropology. It was possible to conclude this paper with that there was enormous trend to use empirical approaches also to study human cultures and related behaviors from early ear of the discipline, anthropology, mainly due to the fact that most anthropologists have borrowed ideas from natural science in formulation of anthropological theories.

<title>Can we predict movie Revenue?</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10760</link>
<description>Can we predict movie Revenue?
Ratnayake, M.P.
The movie industry is characterized with its unpredictability in success and failure. Predicting&#13;
revenue of a particular movie has intrigued industry tycoons as well as scholar as a challenging&#13;
problem. The cinema acts not only as a expressive artistic medium, but also serves as large scale&#13;
industry that impact on the economy However some foreign scholars revealed that there are&#13;
methodologies to forecast future revenue of the movies. Film revenue forecasting has been studied&#13;
in variety of contexts ranging form easthetics economics, management to statistic and psychology.&#13;
In this study author examines whether movie revenue can be predicted by using determinants like&#13;
criticism, budget, propaganda directors creativity, star power and copies released to theaters. All&#13;
the films screened in 2012 were selected, and collected data related to them. The number of copies&#13;
released to theaters, propaganda expenditures and budgets were collected. Star power of 2012 film&#13;
actors and actresses, were converted into mathematical figures. Also a scholarly panel was&#13;
appointed to give grades to those stars and resultant figures were used for final calculating. Same&#13;
process was used when calculating directors creativity. To calculate propaganda expenditure,&#13;
financial figures as well as other scenarios like Contar deals, free interviews were used. sing&#13;
regression model author founds that there is a correlation between revenue and those six&#13;
determinants. In conclusion it can be said that using these determinants, movie revenue can be&#13;
predicted. However this study only test six determinants, and there are some important&#13;
determinants to be tested. The results can be further improved by incorporating more determinants&#13;
and larger sample size in future studies.

<title>Diversity and Distribution of Ichthyofauna and Decapods within Colombo Port, Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10759</link>
<description>Diversity and Distribution of Ichthyofauna and Decapods within Colombo Port, Sri Lanka
Ranatunga, R. R. M. K. P; Marasinghe, M. M. K. I.
The taxonomic composition of ichthyofauna and decapods inhabited in Colombo port were studied.&#13;
Sampling was carried out for nine months from April to December 2013 using multiple sampling&#13;
techniques such as crab traps, hook and lines, gee-minnow traps, fish cage traps, cast nets, scoop&#13;
nets as well as visual observations. Out of the 45 species of ichthyofauna, 44 species were&#13;
belonging to Class Actinopterygii, and only one species belonged to Class Chondrichthyes. 5&#13;
species of crabs of the families Xanthidae, Portunidae, Grapsidae, and Menippidae were also&#13;
recorded. The highest number of species were recorded from the site South Jetty followed by&#13;
Passenger Jetty, Tug and Launch and South Asia Gateway Terminal. According to the findings, 30&#13;
species of fishes and 4 species of crabs were new records for the Colombo port environment. Two&#13;
near threaten fishes, Epinephelus malabaricus and Epinephelus coioides were also recorded.

<title>Occurrence of Urinary Crystals among Urinary Tract Infections Suspected Paediatric Patients, Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10757</link>
<description>Occurrence of Urinary Crystals among Urinary Tract Infections Suspected Paediatric Patients, Sri Lanka
Priyadarshani, A. M. B.; Amarasinghe, K .N. L.; Gunawardana, A. D. U. R.
Crystalluria has become one of the most vital biomarkers in urinalysis in detecting several disease&#13;
conditions. It has been reported that urinary tract infections (UTI) may be the presenting sign of&#13;
Urolithiasis in children. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify and estimate the&#13;
different types of crystals in the urine samples collected from UTI suspected children who admitted&#13;
to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children, Sri Lanka. A descriptive cross-sectional study was&#13;
conducted using 400 children belong to age&lt;12 years suspected with UTI. The participants&#13;
included 242 males and 158 females. The urine samples were collected prior to start antibiotics.&#13;
Each sample was examined macroscopically and centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 5 minutes. The urine&#13;
sediment was examined under the light microscope and different crystal types were identified and&#13;
counted at x40 magnification. Out of 400 samples 82 samples (82/400) were positive for&#13;
crystalluria. The crystal types present were uric acid, calcium oxalate, triple phosphate,&#13;
ammonium biuate and ammonium urate. None of the samples showed abnormal crystal types. The&#13;
distribution of each crystal type was as follow; uric acid 25/82, calcium oxalate 34/82, triple&#13;
phosphate 12/82, ammonium biuate 7/82 and ammonium urate 4/82. The quantity of crystals per&#13;
mL of urine was ranged as follow; uric acid 850-130,000, calcium oxalate 350- &gt;250,000, triple&#13;
phosphate 650-6,000, ammonium biurate and ammonium urate were presented in clumps.
