<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/3715</link>
<description>The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Employee Job Performance An Empirical Study base on the Commercial Banks in Central Province
Welikala, D.S.M.; Dayarathna, N.W.K.D.K.
Area of the Study&#13;
As a significant determinant of job performance of an employee, this study discusses the&#13;
impact of emotional intelligence on employee job performance. There is an empirical and&#13;
knowledge gap in the Sri Lankan context on the relationship between emotional&#13;
intelligence and job performance of employees and its impact.&#13;
Problem of the Study&#13;
The main objective of this research study is to identify the relationship between emotional&#13;
intelligence and job performance of banking employees in commercial banks in the&#13;
Central province, Sri Lanka. The research problem of this study is: Is therea relationship&#13;
between emotional intelligence and job performance of banking employees in commercial&#13;
banks in central province of Sri Lanka?&#13;
Method of the Study&#13;
The data were collected from a randomly selected sample of 200 banking assistants in&#13;
selected commercial banks in Central Province and used a structured questionnaire, which&#13;
indicate the statements of emotional intelligence and job performance with 5 points Likert&#13;
scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS computer package and it included the univariate&#13;
and bivariate analyses.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
The finding at the end of the study was that there is a significant positive impact of&#13;
emotional intelligence on employee job performance. Also, it was proved that there is a&#13;
significant strong positive relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) dimensions&#13;
and job performance. As per the regression analysis, emotional intelligence has an impact&#13;
of 67.4% on job performance.&#13;
Conclusion of the Study&#13;
It is concluded that there is a significant positive impact on emotional intelligence and&#13;
employee job performance. In addition, dimensions of EI (self-awareness, selfmanagement,&#13;
social awareness and relationship management) have a positive impact on&#13;
job performance of the sample. When recruiting management trainees the EI is to be used&#13;
as a tool of selection and EI programme is to be developed as an intervention to ensure the&#13;
higher performance in this sector.

<title>Empirical Investigation of Safety Practices in the Large Scale Construction Industry in Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/3714</link>
<description>Empirical Investigation of Safety Practices in the Large Scale Construction Industry in Sri Lanka
Bhagyani, A.A.B.; Kottawatta, H.
Area of the Study&#13;
This study attempts to identify the current safety issues in the construction field, identify&#13;
effectiveness of the safety strategies used by the construction field and to propose effective&#13;
and preventive safety strategies.&#13;
Problem of the Study&#13;
The research problem addressed under this study is to identify the real safety practices of&#13;
the construction industry in Sri Lanka.&#13;
Method of the Study&#13;
The existing literature, experts’ opinions and the authors’ experience were reviewed to&#13;
find the safety issues and safety strategies. Based on knowledge gained from these sources,&#13;
a detailed questionnaire was developed aiming the main objective of identifying safety&#13;
strategies used in the industry. For this study 40 ongoing large building construction sites&#13;
were selected as the survey sample. In proposing effective and preventive safety&#13;
strategies, the Pearson’s Correlation between identified severe issues and safety strategies&#13;
was used.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
Poor safety documentation, lesser safety education and awareness and lesser provision of&#13;
resources and insurance policies were identified as most severe issues in the construction&#13;
industry in Sri Lanka. Safety strategies like safety signs and symbols, prohibition of&#13;
unhealthy drugs, alcohol at workplace and providing safety manuals, handouts and first&#13;
aid toolkits to workers and management were identified as most effectively practicing&#13;
safety strategies in large scale construction industry in Sri Lanka. To overcome the current&#13;
severe safety issues four effective and preventive safety strategies; safety specialized&#13;
training, accident Insurance policy, safety planning; pre project and pre task and safety&#13;
meetings were proposed considering the strong positive relationship with safety issues that&#13;
had been identified.&#13;
Conclusion of the Study&#13;
In order to avoid or to minimize the safety issues that are severe in the construction&#13;
industry Sri Lanka, implementation of above strategies become utmost important because&#13;
they would prevent the most critical safety issues that are experienced by the large scale&#13;
construction industry in Sri Lanka. Integration of all these can be produced skilled and&#13;
self-disciplined personnel into this field. Thereby, the industry can establish the safety&#13;
culture in construction sites in Sri Lanka.

<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/3713</link>
<description>A Study of the Relationship of Personality Types and Emotional Intelligence A Case Study of the Undergraduates of University of Sri Jayewardenepura
Mallikaarachchi, C.D.; Arachchige, B.J.H.
Area of the Study&#13;
The current research is focused on the relationship of the big five personality types and&#13;
emotional intelligence of the university of Sri Jayewardenepura. Even though, there has&#13;
been a plenty of international studies focusing on this research area, in the context of Sri&#13;
Lanka there is little evidence to be found. Therefore this study is filling the empirical gap&#13;
of the respective study area&#13;
Problem of the Study&#13;
The main objective of the research is to find out whether there is a relation between&#13;
personality and emotional intelligence. Thus the problem statement of this study is, “Is&#13;
there a strong relationship between personality and emotional intelligence with regard to&#13;
the university undergraduates in Sri Lanka?"&#13;
Method of the Study&#13;
To collect data for this study 77 item questionnaire was used and it was consisted with 5&#13;
point Likert scale. Data was analyzed using correlation and regression&#13;
analysis with the SPSS (16.0 versions). The data were collected from 172 management&#13;
undergraduates.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
It was found that the overall big five personality has a positive relationship with the&#13;
emotional intelligence of the university undergraduates.&#13;
Conclusion of the Study&#13;
It was found that the overall big five personality dimensions positively correlated with the&#13;
emotional intelligence except neuroticism. The results of the multiple regression analysis&#13;
showed that the big five personality model can predict the variance of emotional&#13;
intelligence by nearly 41%.
