<title>FISCAL POLICY AND THE ECONOMIC GROWTH: A COMPARISON BETWEEN SRI LANKA AND INDIA</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10989</link>
<description>FISCAL POLICY AND THE ECONOMIC GROWTH: A COMPARISON BETWEEN SRI LANKA AND INDIA
Guruge, M.; Koswatta, A.; Silva, S.
During the past decades, both India and Sri Lanka faced different&#13;
public policy circumstances, a relatively short period of time, which&#13;
resulted in a significant impact on the economic growth of both&#13;
countries. This paper comparatively reviews the theoretical and&#13;
empirical evidence on the effect of fiscal policy variables and&#13;
government expenditure programs which focused on economic&#13;
growth in India and Sri Lanka. The Estimated results confirm that&#13;
in the long run using the Engel Granger Cointegration Test Total&#13;
Government Spending will improve the GDP by 1% in Sri Lanka&#13;
while Indian economy will improve by 59%. The total tax revenue&#13;
will increase the GDP by 51% in Sri Lanka while in India, it will be&#13;
57%. In the short run there is no significant impact of fiscal policy&#13;
variables on economic growth in Sri Lanka but Indian economy&#13;
grows with the expansionary fiscal policy which was tested by the&#13;
Error Correction Mechanism. According to obtained results, the&#13;
Impulse Response Function strives when an external shock affects&#13;
the total government spending level and the Sri Lankan economy&#13;
does not adequately respond to such instances but Indian economy&#13;
is strong enough to handle the external shocks which affect the&#13;
country’s spending level.

<title>CUSTOMER ATTITUDE AND INTENTION TOWARDS INTERNET BANKING: A CASE OF LICENSED COMMERCIAL BANKS IN COLOMBO DISTRICT, SRI LANKA</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10982</link>
<description>CUSTOMER ATTITUDE AND INTENTION TOWARDS INTERNET BANKING: A CASE OF LICENSED COMMERCIAL BANKS IN COLOMBO DISTRICT, SRI LANKA
Priyangika, R. D.; Perera, M. S. S.; Rajapakshe, D. P.
The banking industry in Sri Lanka has been rapidly developing and&#13;
internet banking has become one of the most important and modern&#13;
applications that is used as an efficient and viable tool to create&#13;
customer value. The study investigates customer attitude and intension&#13;
towards using Internet banking of six Licensed Commercial Banks&#13;
(LCBs) in the Colombo district in Sri Lanka by employing quantitative&#13;
research approach. A survey was undertaken by administering a selfstructured questionnaire which was circulated to 20 customers from&#13;
each bank, totaling to 120 respondents through a convenient sampling&#13;
technique. The literature suggests that, there are four major factors that&#13;
determine the attitude towards internet banking, namely, (i) perceived&#13;
ease of use, (ii) perceived usefulness, (iii) perceived risk and (iv)&#13;
subjective norms. The survey results show a strong positive influence&#13;
from perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness factors on attitude&#13;
towards Internet banking, and this reveals that customers search for&#13;
easiness and usefulness when using Internet banking. In contrast,&#13;
perceived risk and subjective norms have become unimportant factors&#13;
in determining attitude towards Internet banking. The study also tests&#13;
the association between attitude and intention to use Internet banking.&#13;
The findings suggest that an insignificant negative relationship&#13;
between customer attitude and intention. This revealed that the&#13;
majority of the customers depend on traditional channels to carry out&#13;
their banking operations despite positive attitude towards Internet&#13;
banking.

<title>THE DETERMINANTS OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DISPARITIES IN SRI LANKA: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND ISSUES</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10980</link>
<description>THE DETERMINANTS OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DISPARITIES IN SRI LANKA: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND ISSUES
Sri Ranjith, J. G.; Thilanka, H. R. A. C.
Being one of the highest countries to have recorded inequality in the&#13;
case of regional development in South Asian region, Sri Lanka&#13;
confronts detrimental impacts on its future development due to lack&#13;
of attention of respective authorities on the issue of regional&#13;
disparity. Although the Provincial Council system in Sri Lanka was&#13;
initiated to provide greater autonomy to local governments to take&#13;
necessary measures to increase the local share of the resources and&#13;
thereby mitigate the regional disparities, the issue still remained&#13;
unaddressed. Therefore, addressing this issue is timely in order to&#13;
improve the efficiency of socio-economic performance and political&#13;
stability. With this background, this study mainly aims to investigate&#13;
the dynamics and main determinants of generating regional&#13;
development disparities in Sri Lanka. The methodology of this study&#13;
is mainly based on the panel data analysis following fixed effect and&#13;
cross-sectional effect estimation for the period of 2010-2015. The&#13;
empirical results of the study show that there is a greater income&#13;
concentration on Western Province whereas the other regions&#13;
perform relatively poor. According to our estimation results, the&#13;
development potentials of other regions depends on provincial-wise&#13;
capital and recurrent expenditure, investment in education sector for&#13;
increasing provincial-wise per capita GDP. Hence, these results&#13;
indicate that corrective measures for addressing regional disparities&#13;
is basically based on education, capital and recurrent expenditures,&#13;
but not further expansion of expenditures on administrative&#13;
functions.
