<title>Impact of Big Five Personality on Work Family Balance among Academics of Selected Public Universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/3729</link>
<description>Impact of Big Five Personality on Work Family Balance among Academics of Selected Public Universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka
Wickramaaratchi, D.R.; Perera, G.D.N.
Area of the Study&#13;
This study attempts to scrutinize the impact of „big five personality (BFP)‟ on work-family balance&#13;
(WFB) among academics of selected public universities in the Western Province.&#13;
Problem of the Study&#13;
There is an empirical and theoretical gap in the study of the impact of BFP and WFB in the Sri&#13;
Lankan context. Hence, the research problem of this study is „how big five personality impact on&#13;
the work-family balance among married management faculty academics of selected public&#13;
universities in Western Province?‟.&#13;
Method of the Study&#13;
The primary data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 63 statements&#13;
with five points Likert Scale from the study population which consisted of married management&#13;
faculty academics of three public universities in Western Province. Seven hypotheses were&#13;
formulated in this regard under the deductive approach and the study was conducted using a&#13;
random sampling technique having the total of the 181 married academics. The SPSS package&#13;
with the univariate and bivariate analyses were used for the purpose of data analysis.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
The results of the study emphasize that there is a positive relationship between the BFP and WFB. It&#13;
is suggested through the overall results that each of the five factor model dimensions are unique and&#13;
significant predictors of some form of positive or negative WFB in terms of time, involvement and&#13;
satisfaction with life.&#13;
Conclusion of the Study&#13;
In conclusion, it could be noted that that there is a significant positive relationship between BFP and&#13;
WFB. The result provides clear evidence that the personality type extraversion, consciousness,&#13;
openness and agreeableness are able to strike a proper balance between the work and the family. It&#13;
was also identified that neuroticism causes negative effects on the maintenance of the balance&#13;
between the work and the family. Hence, it is concluded that the personality type neuroticism is&#13;
more vulnerable to work family imbalance.

Area of the Study&#13;
This study discusses the impact of work life balance practices on employee performance of female&#13;
machine operators in the Sri Lankan apparel sector.&#13;

Method of the Study&#13;
The data were collected from a randomly selected sample of 108 female machine operators in the&#13;
Sri Lankan apparel sector by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of the 32&#13;
questions/ statements with 5 point scale. And also, 108 questionnaires were distributed and 96 were&#13;
received as completed questionnaire. The respondent rate is 88.88%. The data analysis includes the&#13;
univariate analysis and bivariate analysis.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
Findings suggest that a high correlation exists between work life balance practices and the employee&#13;
performance of the female machine operators in the Sri Lankan apparel sector. Further, comparably&#13;
family supportive work provisions highly impact on employee performance than the three of other&#13;
dimensions. Unexpectedly there was no statistically significant impact of parenting and pregnancy&#13;
policy on employee performance.&#13;

<description>Application of Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory of Motivation to Identify Turnover Intention of the Non-Executive Level Employees in Selected Super Markets in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Nanayakkara, M.K.N.P.; Dayarathna, N.W.K.D.K.
Area of the Study&#13;
This study attempts to identify the factors which affect the turnover intention of non-executive level&#13;
employees by applying Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory of Motivation. Especially this study aims to&#13;
identify whether the hygiene factors or motivational factors affect employee’s intention to leave&#13;
most.&#13;
Problem of the Study&#13;
Since employees are the most critical resource in any organization prevailing in the business world,&#13;
retaining the employees is a crucial factor for the success of an origination. In order to retain&#13;
employees, identifying factors which affect turnover intentions of employees is paramount&#13;
important. The researchers could identify that there is a high employee turnover ratio in shop floor&#13;
level employees in Sri Lanka. Hence, the research problem addressed in this study is to identify&#13;
whether the hygiene factors or motivators affect the turnover intentions of non-executive level&#13;
employee most.&#13;
Method of the Study&#13;
The data were collected from a convenient sample of 100 non-executives in selected super markets&#13;
in Colombo, Sri Lanka using a structured questionnaire which consisted of 44 question statements&#13;
in total, including 34 statements of five point Likert Scale. To validate the questions, a pilot&#13;
research was carried out using 10 random shop floor level employees before undertaking the full&#13;
scale research.&#13;
Findings of the Study&#13;
This study found that motivation is negatively correlated with turnover intention of the employees.&#13;
Moreover, main two dimensions of motivation; hygiene factors and motivators found to be&#13;
negatively correlated with turnover intention of the employees. In this instance, hygiene factors&#13;
found to be more affective for the turnover intention than motivators.&#13;
Conclusion of the Study&#13;
It is concluded that there is a strong negative relationship between motivation and turnover intention&#13;
of the employees. Further this study found that hygiene factors are more affective for the turnover&#13;
intention than motivators. And it is concluded that most of the employees are dissatisfied with the&#13;
motivational factors (intrinsic motivation) in the supermarket sector. Thus, some good practices,&#13;
procedures, methods and programs were recommended to enhance the job satisfaction of the&#13;
employees to retain them and to get their maximum contribution for the sustainable success of the&#13;
companies.
