Attached; Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector is considered to be the backbone o f Japanese&#13;
economy. Its importance is often highlighted by the large share o f the economy it occupies,&#13;
whether in terms o f number o f companies, total number o f employees, value o f shipments or&#13;
GDP. However, since last two decades many SMEs have gone out o f businesses while firm entry&#13;
rate is showing downward trend. According to some business advocates, one o f the reasons fo r&#13;
high rate o f business failures in SMEs is due to its less attention to the human side o f their&#13;
businesses. Therefore, the broad objective o f this study is to examine the role o f Human&#13;
Resource Management (HRM) practices in SMEs in Japan. Specifically, this study attempts to&#13;
examine the relationship between H RM practices and labor productivity in manufacturing SMEs&#13;
in Japan. Further, it aims to examine the mediating link o f HR outcomes in between HRM&#13;
practices and labour productivity. A structured questionnaire was developed and sent to 436&#13;
SMEs in Aichi Prefecture and 144 firm s responded to the questionnaire resulting in 32 percent&#13;
response rate. Based on the data analysis it was found that there is a strong positive relationship&#13;
between H RM practices and labour productivity mediated by HR outcomes in manufacturing&#13;
SMEs in Japan.

HRM practices on job satisfaction are a widely discussed topic today. Therefore this study&#13;
is aimed to discuss the HRM practices on job satisfaction o f operational workers in the Sri&#13;
Lankan apparel companies located in Colombo district.&#13;
Problem o f the Study&#13;
There are no any theoretical and empirical findings on how HRM practices affect job&#13;
satisfaction o f operational workers in the apparel sector in Sri Lanka. Then, the problem&#13;
o f the study is: Do HRM practices affect job satisfaction o f operational workers in the Sri&#13;
Lankan apparel companies located in Colombo district?&#13;
Method o f the Study&#13;
The data were collected from 300 operational level employees from four selected large&#13;
scale apparel companies in Colombo district through structured questionnaire.&#13;
Questionnaire consisted o f 60 questions for HRM practices and 20 for job satisfaction and&#13;
all questions were scaled with five point scale. Correlation and regression analysis were&#13;
used to analyse the data using SPSS (Version 16).&#13;
Findings o f the Study&#13;
The major finding o f the study is that there is a significant and positive relationship and&#13;
association o f HRM practices with job satisfaction. Further, there are few HRM functions&#13;
which strongly do not affectjob satisfaction o f employees.&#13;
Conclusion o f the Study&#13;
As conclusion, companies have to enrich the significant HRM junction is to enhance the&#13;
employees ’job satisfaction based on the findings.

This study is mainly focused on discussing the effect o f work life balance on job&#13;
satisfaction among non executives in the public banking sector in Colombo district.&#13;
Problem o f the Study j&#13;
The research problem addressed under this study is to investigate what extent work life&#13;
balance affects on job satisfaction among non, executives in public banking sector in&#13;
Colombo district. ; I&#13;
Method o f the Study j&#13;
The data for the present study was collected from 224 respondents in public banks in&#13;
Colombo by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted o f 36 statements&#13;
with 5 point Likert scale. The data analysis included the univariate, bivariate and&#13;
multivariate analysis method conducted using SPSS (version 16.0).&#13;
\&#13;
Findings o f the Study&#13;
The results o f the study emphasize that there was a negative relation o f work life balance&#13;
with job satisfaction and 78.9% ofjob satisfaction was explained by work life balance (sig0.000). Except job autonomy, work to family interference, family to work interference,&#13;
work stress, life stress and work load were negatively correlated with job satisfaction.&#13;
82.7% o f job satisfaction was explained by the total variables o f work life balance o f the&#13;
model according to multiple regression analysis.&#13;
Conclusion o f the Study&#13;
It is concluded that there was negative relationship between work life balance and job&#13;
satisfaction o f the non executives in the public banking sector in Colombo district. The&#13;
bank management has to introduce various strategies to reduce the conflicts o f work life o f&#13;
non executives for the purpose o f getting maximum contribution.
