The present study was aimed al illvtistigillhlg Hie nntioxidant activity o f leaf extracts of three important medicinal
plants: Com us specious ( I hehn). Coccinia ghi/ft/A ( I o ’\ ) and Wattakaka volubilis (Kiri Anguna). The antioxidant
activity ofmethanolic extracts of leaf santplts ere evaluated hy using in vitro assays: DI’I’I I assay (IC 50 value) and FolinCiacalteu method calculated as Gallic acid et|lii\ill0iis (U A I 1. Values of DPP! I assay were compared to the standard
antioxidant butylated hydroxv Itolucne (B ill I All samples showed effective scavenging activity and none of the samples
exerted an obvious pro-oxidant activity. I lighesl ahlloxidaill actiVih was shown in Coccinia grandis; 0.501 ±0.003 mg ml. 1
and highest total phenolic content was shtlwil 111 II olkil'oka volubilis: 975.82+11.28 (mg/t i AI 100 g) although there is 110
significant difference between Wattakaka voltihilis and ' occinid grandis. The antioxidant activity was increased with the
increasing amount of doses. I lie free radical ■••>\e"uini;. atrli vil> lna> be attributed to the presence o f phenolic compounds.
Present study reported a positive relationship tr ().(> (7j between phenolic content and the antioxidant activity. Results
obtained from the present studs suggested tli:ll Ihe leaves of Cost tin specious. Coccinia grandis and Wattakaka volubilis as
potential sources of natural anlioxidants |
